(August 14, 2010 - Boscoes Sports Grill, Lake Forest)
Before each session, the South OC APA Pool League holds a Players Meeting to discuss updates to league structure and operations, rule clarifications and APA pool events. Click here for Meeting Notes. After the meeting, a pool tournament is held for as an ice-breaker for new players to introduce them to the APA rules and some existing players. Of course, there's nothing like a little friendly competition as well! Congratulations to Franco Blanchard who went undefeated in the pool tournament. Here are the top finishers: Franco Blanchard - 1st Place - $75 EB Brooks - 2nd Place - $45 Clay Bryant - 3rd Place - $25 Darin Reeves - 4th Place - $10 Thanks to all players who attended the Players Meeting. The South OC APA continues the Top Gun Challenge for the 2010 Fall Session. For each division, the Top Gun from the previous session will have a “bounty” on his/her head. If you play and beat the Top Gun from the previous session (#1 Rank in the division from regular session) you will earn $5 (500 South OC APA Balls as credit can be used that night for league play, singles boards or other tournament entries/fees). The total prize pool is $50 so if the Top Gun gets beat ten (10) times, then the money is gone. However, if the Top Gun plays five (5) games or more, they are eligible for the remaining prize money. For example, Top Gun plays 5 matches, loses 2 and wins 3. He/she would get $40 ($50 - $10 for two losses = $40). Here are the Top Gun Targets from the 2010 Summer Session:
Shaun Miles (Div 871, Sunday 8-Ball) Julie Damico (Div 971, Sunday 9-Ball) Ben MacGregor (Div 821, Tuesday 8-Ball) Phil Joun (Div 831, Wednesday 8-Ball) Matt DiPaola (Div 841, Thursday 8-Ball) Matt DiPaola (Div 941, Thursday 9-Ball)

October 2-3, 2010 Mulligans Sports Bar, San Clemente
After a last-minute location conflict, the South Orange County APA is excited to be hosting the Fall Singles Regional this year at Mulligans Sports Bar in San Clemente. Seventy-one players from the following regional areas will be participating: North Orange County, Riverside County, San Gabriel Valley, Orange County and Ventura County. Each Players qualified for the regional by winning a local singles board within their league area. Players who win the regional will advance to the National Singles Championships in April-May 2011, with one player from each of the seve skill level tiers (four 8-ball tiers, three 9-ball tiers).
The South Orange County APA is working with Mulligans to accommodate all players by adding enough tables to run a comfortable, efficient tournament. Mulligans will be removing the 9-foot table and will add two 7-foot tablees upstairs and one 7-foot table downstairs for a total of six tables. Due to limited space, we will be running separate tiers on different days as follows.

October 7-10, 2010 Riviera Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas
Join other teams in the southwest region and compete in the largest 3-person pool tournament west of the Mississippi! The team buy-in includes tournament entry, a room for three nights, and open pool tables throughout the event. The event has a unique format with players keeping the same rotation throughout the tournament rather than posting against your opponent based on skill level. In addition, you can compete in mini tournaments and singles qualifiers all weekend.
Click the image below for more information and sign-up form.
The Southwest Challenge is run by the league operators in the southwest region, including California, Nevada, Arizona and New Mexico. The 9-ball event occurs annually in the Fall, and the 8-Ball event occurs annually in the Spring, with the next event being held March 24-27, 2011.
Back by popular demand, effective 2010 Summer Session, every patch earned will be distributed at no extra cost to the player. Players on electronic teams will earn "South County APA Balls" that can be redeemed for patches, other rewards, or may be used for league dues. Refer to the South County APA Rewards Program for details on redemption of "SOC APA Balls" and other awards. The total patches earned for all players is currently being calculated and will be posted soon. Players will be able to view total "balls" earned since the inception of the South Orange County APA Pool League. (Background: As voted by the Players Board in an effort to distribute more trophy/prize money, the patch process was temporarily changed in the 2010 Spring Session to provide players with only one type of patch during that session. If that player earned more than one type of patch, then they are entered into a session-ending tournament for other prizes, but also had the option to buy additional patches.)
Effective in 2010, after each session ends and credits are distributed to teams for the following session, the League Office will request confirmation from team captains (or co-captains), acknowledging the amount of credit received, either for earning "weeks paid" from playoffs or for payouts that are credited towards the next session's team fees. (Background: The APA National Office periodically performs audits of Players Funds throughout the league to ensure trophies and prize money are being distributed appropriately to players. This process was implemented as a result of a recent audit of the South Orange County APA Players Fund.)
When players pay their annual membership dues, they receive a Welcome Kit mailed to them directly from the APA National Office. Membership cards, however, are sent to the League Office and are distributed to players either in person, in weekly team packets or in the mail to team captains. If you have not received your membership card, please contact the League Office. If you have not received your Membership Kit in the mail, please ensure the League Office has your current mailing address, as well as cell phone number and email address to receive electronic messages regarding upcoming events and other reminders.
Refer to p. 48 for Pocketed Balls in the Official Team Manual.
